Earlier this year, Elon Musk, the 52-year-old business entrepreneur and Tesla founder, quietly welcomed a new addition to his expanding family. Shivon Zilis, director of special projects at Neuralink Corp., another company founded by Musk, is the mother of the child. Musk and his partners have consistently kept their family life private and shielded their children from the public eye.

Musk’s journey into parenthood officially began with the birth of his first son, Nevada Alexander, in 2002 with his first wife, Justine Wilson. Tragically, Nevada passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at just 10 weeks old. Musk and Wilson then used IVF to conceive twins, Vivian Jenna and Griffin, born in 2004, followed by triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian, born in 2006.
In May 2020, Musk and musician Grimes welcomed their first child together, a son named X Æ A-Xii. Later, in December 2021, they welcomed a daughter, Exa Dark Siderael, via surrogate. Musk and Shivon Zilis welcomed twins, Azure and Strider, in November 2021.

The birth of Musk and Zilis’ third child, Techno Mechanicus (known as «Tau»), was revealed in Walter Isaacson’s 2023 biography of Musk. Musk clarified after the birth of their youngest child: «The claim of ‘secretly fathered’ is incorrect. Our family and friends are aware. ‘Secret’ does not mean ‘not issuing a press release,’ although that would be unusual.» Musk and Zilis have chosen to maintain privacy by not disclosing the name or gender of their youngest child.
